Pain Problems
Today I am going to share with you about the pain I have endured and what types of treatments I have used. Hoping that others that may ever experience TMJ issues can find some relief with reading this.
When I first began having severe pain all I wanted was surgery. I couldn't eat anything remotely solid or chewy. My doctor in Arizona prescribed methyl-predisone packs almost once a month in order to reduce the inflammation in my jaw that was causing me extreme pain. After I would finish that pack (6 ish days later), my inflammation would have decreased enough to maybe eat solid food. But, the pain would just come back all over again a few weeks later and we would be playing the same game.
The circle below is where the pain I have is located. I have arthritis in both sides of my jaw now due to the TMJ.
We tried using a compounding pharmacy for a cream with pain killers/muscle relaxants in it to rub on my cheeks, but that was just expensive and didn't help at all.
Getting the bite splint was the first time that my jaw pain subsided.
I have been in braces for two weeks and the TMJ pain in slowly returning. I can best describe it as when I chew food its like a workout for my jaw and it is in pain after. Like after you workout and are sore.

I have been in braces close to a month now and the jaw pain is getting worse. I can no longer use a straw to drink any drinks with. I forgot how I couldn't use straws before when my pain was bad, but low and behold the pain is back. Yawning hurts again. I cannot wear ear buds anymore. I know this sounds like me complaining, but it is one of those pain's and ailments that you really do not understand until you lose luxurious such as the one listed. Do not get me wrong, I am grateful each day for my health and lifestyle that I have, but it does not mean that the pain that I am going through isn't real and hard.
Happy February!
I started taking the methyl-prednisone pack last week and I am sad to say that I really thought it would put me completely out of pain, but it has not. It worries me some because I am certain the worse is yet to come with my pain.
