30 Days Post Surgery!

It has officially been a month since my surgery. It seems crazy that time has passed so slowly/quickly. Some days are longer than others especially depending on whether I am in pain or not.

This week has been busy with orthodontist appointments and surgeon appointments. Lets go over the key points from this week and then we will discuss the highlights.

Orthodontist Appointment:

This lovely appointment on Tuesday was 2.5 hours. It was awful. Holding my mouth open for extended periods of time is still not easy for me, especially with someone jabbing around in it the whole time. I was able to get the surgical hooks taken off and new wires put in, which cleaned up the look of my teeth which I cannot complain about (other than the pain). They also put in a TP wire on the roof of my mouth. This is to make sure that my upper jaw that moved during surgery stays in its new position. It does effect my speaking somewhat, but is a ton better than the splint that was in before. I get to wear my rubber bands in new fun positions too! Everyone should be jealous. The good news is that even though these steps are painful and not enjoyable, it does mean I am moving towards the end of this journey. Granted I am many, many months away from that, it still is closer than I was before surgery.

That is what is in the roof of my mouth now

Surgeon Appointment:

My surgeon could not be happier with the results of my surgery. Every time I see him, he tells me that everything looks better each time and that my healing is going very well. It is wonderful to hear because it is exactly what I need to hear after going through this surgery. I am still on a non-chewing diet and cannot do any high impact activities.

Highlights since my last post:

1. I can no longer eat lentil soup

2. I am almost sick of ice cream!

3. My teeth still touch and are lined up even straighter this week

4. Braces are still awful

5. The magic mouthwash they gave me that numbs my mouth is my favorite thing in the world

6. I can drink with a straw!

Thank you for those following my story :)
